For the first time in the history of the Miss World beauty pageant, the international pageant will be held in Dubai, UAE. The official announcement was made on Monday on Miss World's social media. This edition will create a historical monument for a Middle Eastern country to host the Miss World beauty pageant. This will also be the first year to see Nepal-born British businessman Mr. Dipendra Gurung become the pageant's co-owner. Miss World organization chairwoman Madam Julia Morley made the official announcement on the social media saying; She is delighted to announce the 71st Miss World Festival will be held in the United Arab Emirates on May 2023. The grand coronation date and further details will follow shortly.
The last edition was the 70th Anniversary Miss World beauty pageant was held in March 2022 where Poland's Karolina Bielawska won the coveted blue crown of Miss World with delegates from the USA and Ivory Coast rounding up the Top 3 Finalists. Karolina Bielawska made a historical moment for Poland by becoming the second Polish Miss World winner. The last edition of Miss World was originally planned to be held on 16 December 2021 but after the Covid-19 outbreak among the delegates and the pageant organizers. The Miss World contest had to postpone the pageant to 16 March 2022 at Coca-Cola Music Hall, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Only the Top 40 Quater-finalists were invited to compete at the grand coronation night in Puerto Rico where they joined in different competitions merged into the rich and colorful Puerto Rican culture. Miss World 2019 Toni-Ann Singh from Jamaica became the longest-reigning Miss World winner with 2 years of reign due to Covid-19.
Miss World is the oldest-running international pageant which was started in 1951 by the British businessman late Mr. Eric Morley. After he died in 2000, his widow Madam Julia Morley became the chairwoman and head of the philanthropic beauty pageant with a big emphasis on Beauty with a Purpose first founded in 1972. Since the launch of the Beauty with a Purpose Program, the Miss World organization has managed to raise millions of pounds donated to local and international organizations to help underprivileged communities worldwide. Due to the importance given to charity work and humanitarian projects of the delegates in their respective countries. This foundation has worked with cleft lip surgeries in South America, Sri Lanka, and Russia, fundraising to support abandoned children in Vietnam and helping the hunger problem through Operation Hunger and the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Africa. Through the help of Mr. Jackie Chan and the Chinese Red Cross Miss World jointly helped the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. Miss World has managed to set up Beauty with Purpose projects in over 100 countries and made an important contribution to humanity through empathy and kindness. Miss World pageant has earned prestigious and high respect from the global audience.
The upcoming 71st Miss World 2023 pageant has 82 confirmed contestants from around the world to compete in this distinguished international contest.
